Horses in Beaufort West Starving Due to Drought

Moya Animal Outreach are helping volunteers from Bitou Horse Welfare and Happy Hooves Horse Haven to help these emaciated horses that were rescued from starvation in Beaufort West area due to drought. They have been brought back to the Garden Route for future assessment and rehabilitation. We did their primary inspections yesterday – they are all in need of dietary supplements, probiotics, vitamins etc but some are in need of more specific veterinary care too. Any donations towards these expenses would be greatly appreciated.

UPDATE ON Beaufort West HORSES….

The horses are all doing relatively well but recovery is slow and daily medical treatment continues for at least 4 of the 6 horses.

At least 3 of the 6 horses have been declared unfit to return to work by our vet Jacqueline De Villiers Rodmell who we thank for her commitment to their medical welfare. These horses will all be available for adoption once their permanent surrender has been negotiated and their overall BCS is at an acceptable level.

Our next trip to Beaufort West is scheduled for this coming weekend… should anyone be willing and able to make any tack, supplies and/or feed donations, please contact me directly so that we can co-ordinate delivery or collection.

The animals remain in our care and costs continue to be incurred long after the newspaper articles are forgotten…. please don’t forget their plight! THEY NEED YOUR HELP!

Public visitors welcome by appointment. Phone 078 740 2696 to make arrangements.

IN ORDER FOR US TO CONTINUE HELPING THESE HORSES, WE REQUIRE CONTINUED SUPPORT!
